Curt Pringle (R) Assembly District 68


Personal Background: Curt Pringle was born on June 27, 1959, in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He received a bachelor's degree in business administration in 1981, and a master's degree in public administration in 1986 from California State University, Long Beach.

Mr. Pringle has lived in the Garden Grove area since 1968.

Mr. Pringle has been involved in politics for some time. He has chaired the Garden Grove Planning Commission (1986-88), Arts in Public Places Commission, and Citizens' Committee on Government Efficiency. He also ran three times unsuccessfully for the Garden Grove City Council. The first term he spent in the Assembly was in 1988, but was defeated in 1990 by Democrat Tom Umberg. In 1992 he regained his seat, and went on to easily win the 1994 and 1996 elections.

Mr. Pringle and his wife Alexis, married in 1984 and have two children, Katie and Kyle.

As a partener in a family drapery business, "Pringle's Draperies," he helps to manage and run the operation in Anaheim. The manufacturing firm deals in retail as well as wholesale service. Mr. Pringle has also been active in the North Orange County Cancer League, the Garden Grove Adult Day-Care Center, and the National Eagle Scout Association.

Term Limits: Under the limits of Proposition 140, Mr. Pringle's term would end in 1998.

Legislative Experience: Mr. Pringle has served as the Republican Leader, Chairman of the Appropriations Committee, Chairman of the Rules Committee and Vice Chairman of the Budget Committee. He also served on the Insurance and Joint Legislative Budget Review Committees. On January 4, 1996 Mr. Pringle was elected Speaker of the California State Assembly. He remained in this position until November, 1996.

Futrure Prospects: Mr. Pringle plans a run for the office of State Controller in the 1998 elections. As a backer of term limits, he would loose credibility if he decided to stay in the Assembly (if the ruling against Proposition 140 stands).
