1. make sure there is no contrary indication in the will
  2. must demonstrate a sufficient relationship between survivor and beneficiary
  3. statute does not apply if they were a friend
  4. property will pass to descendant of predeceased
  5. if no descendants of pre-deceased it would go to the residual beneficiaries
  6. if the gift cannot be saved by the anti-lapse statute, the residual would now pass by intestacy
  7. if the residual is left to two people, then the survivor would still get it
  8. do not presume survivorship language except if it is a residual clause (although Court will presume survivorship language if a residual is passed to two people.)
