Cosi fan tutteGuglielmo and Ferrando accept and an elaborate scheme is launched, with the help of Despina (Valentina Osinski), to tempt the young ladies into infidelity. The grand scheme proves to be a barrel full of laughs not only for Don Alfonso but also for the entire audience.
Add to this the musical richness of an entire cast of great voices and a talented orchestra conducted by Nina Shuman and you have a wonderful night of entertainment that touches the audience on many levels.
“We’ve stayed away from this piece religiously for 30 odd years because it’s a nightmare to stage and to sing,” said director Elly Lichenstein. “But it always gnawed at us because the music is so gorgeous and because a good nightmare is also a great challenge. Then, though we weren’t looking for them, at last year’s auditions the Cinnabar cast arrived. We decided to take the plunge and we were right to do so – it’s a rich, layered opera with real, rounded deep characters and a story to tell that everyone who’s ever been young and in love can identify with.”
Cinnabar’s cast was truly up to the challenge. No need to drive to San Francisco when you have such professional opera being performed right here in beautiful Sonoma County. For tickets or more information call (707) 763-8920 or visit www.cinnabartheater.org.
