On Golden PondIf you saw the movie with Henry Fonda and his daughter Jane, don’t let it stop you from seeing this live stage version. Personally, I prefer Ross Valley Players’ handling of this drama; it’s much brighter, emphasizing the comic elements of this family’s life. The film took a more serious conflicting tone that made some of the scenes hard to breathe through. The play is airy and full of hope and light.
The highlight of this production is an excellent cast. Wood Lockhart as Norman Thayer is perfect for the part of the aging father with a keen wit, even if his memory sometimes fails him. His comic timing is perfect, particularly when playing off his daughter’s 12-year-old stepson Billy (Riley O’Flynn).
This is a family comedy with a lot of heart. A perfect show for the holiday season. For more information call (415) 456-9555 or visit www.rossvalleyplayers.org.
