A Christmas Carol: A Solo Performance

Ron Severdia of Mill Valley, an actor familiar to Bay Area theater-goers for his roles in various productions at the Ross Valley Players, Marin Shakespeare Company and California Shakespeare Theatre in Orinda, is turning his acting talents towards a more formidable opponent: Charles Dickens.

Severdia will perform more than 40 characters in a new adaptation entitled A Christmas Carol: A Solo Performance, presented by Humbug Theatre and directed by Julian Lopez-Morillas.

Severdia will delight audiences in his retelling of the holiday classic, magically transforming from Ebenezer Scrooge to Tiny Tim and other Dickens’ characters.

A special holiday engagement will feature only five performances at 8 p.m. Dec. 21 & 22; 1 & 8 p.m. Dec. 23 and 1 p.m. Dec. 24 at The Barn Theatre, located at the Marin Art & Garden Center in Ross.

Severdia has been refining the Dickens’ tale for solo performance over the last two years and performed a workshop version of the show last summer at the Marsh, a fringe theater in San Francisco. Working with solo impresario, Charlie Varon, Severdia developed a theatrical script from the original work of prose.

Severdia studied at the American Conservatory Theatre in San Francisco. After working briefly at Magic Theatre, he spent six years in Vienna performing at Vienna’s English Theatre, The International Theatre of Vienna and in various Shakespeare festivals. He has also appeared in films and television, has been a radio voiceover announcer and is an accomplished magician. Tickets will be $25 general and $15 youth and seniors. All tickets are $10 for the 1 p.m. Christmas Eve matinee on Sunday, Dec. 24.
