The Music Man marches onto 6th Street Playhouse’s stage to open their new season with such well known songs as Seventy-Six Trombones and Till There Was You. Directed by Holly Vinson, who is also director of education and involved in summer children’s theater, this production features over 40 youthful actors from the Summer Theater Workshop Young Actors. Their high energy level coupled with their singing, dancing and acting skills combine to make this show a night of very lively entertainment.

There are some fine voices in the older performers as well, including Heather Lane as the town librarian and David Yen playing the con man Professor Harold Hill. Also, the barbershop quartet, including Eric Chazankin, Eldon Guinn, Bill Morgan and Jon Rathjen, are a joy to listen to, and the opening number, Rock Island, is a unique interpretation of a train ride with a car full of salesmen.

Don’t miss this journey to the small town of River City, Iowa where a con man arrives with the sole purpose of fleecing the townspeople of as much money as he can by getting them to invest in instruments and uniforms for a children’s’ marching band. But this is a con man with a heart that is won over by the town’s librarian and her younger brother.
