Old Comic Strip & Other Art

       Click on the LINKS below to view 5 water color portraits of well known pre-World War II comic characters (from a long ago Puck-The Comic Weekly 5 piece series), hand colored and each signed by the artist. They are all still inside their aging transparent wrappings and are in mint condition. The Characters are: "Jiggs," "Barney Google," "Tillie the Toiler," "Popeye," and Flash Gordon*. Each portrait is done on a thick papyrus type paper and is approximately 7.5 X10 inches in size. Click on any one of the above portraits, and then click the "next" link to quickly view the series.

* On Saturday, June 14, 1997, in New York, a Sotheby's comic art auction totaled $1.7 million in sales, according to Sotheby's spokesman Matthew Weigman. Among the artwork commanding the highest prices (including Batman and Superman comics) was " . . . a Sunday newspaper strip of Flash Gordon (which) brought in $27,600 for full-color original art that ran Feb. 10, 1935 " (Associated Press).
