The Bogz
"Woe be unto those who enter there
without surrender in their hearts," is a saying some repeat on their
trembling lips when The Bogz are mentioned. Many have sunk into oblivion
upon venturing in, but it is said that others have found "new"
lives.
The symbol of the "grasping hand,"
scrawled and re-scrawled on the walls of the rotting buildings of Dunztown,
continually reminds its denizens (and the Dezu) of the story of the Enforcer
who pursued a poor Anteek into the Bogz. On the verge of killing the old
man, the Enforcer slipped and fell into one of its many quiksand poolz.
His screams soon drew a circle of wildmen who watched him sink slowly up
to his neck. With his last cries for help, a blind man emerged from the
gathering mists, raised his staff and said in a clear voice: "Those
who show no mercy shall receive none!" As the Enforcer slid beneath
the primordial mud, only his grasping hand could be seen clawing the heavy
air.
Dark, wet, and filled with quiksand poolz
and other dangers, The Bogz seem inhospitable at best, but they are home
to wildmen, feral children, and others who have taken the chance to escape
the horrors of living in Downshaft under the yoke of the dreaded Dezu. As
in other unlikely places in The Quadrant, there are secrets to be discovered
even in The Bogz.
Somewhat akin to a village, but more informal (and readily moved), the
Enkampment is a place where nomadik bog-dwellerz live for a time before
they move on.
Drakmar's Haven
An island in the center of the watery, and most dangerous part of The
Bogz. It is said that Drakmar comes here from time to time to "gather
himself" for prophecy.
